Family History | Philip Adshead was born in 1900 at Stockport, Cheshire,
the son of a baker William Adshead and his wife Frances. In the 1901 census,
10 month old Philip was found living with his parents and siblings in Stockport; his siblings
being what appears to be his twin sister Mona, elder sisters Frances & Edith, and
elder brothers Tom & William. Philip was still living in Stockport at the time of the 1911 census.
In 1924, Philip married Winifred Florence Kennedy at Stockport. Although not yet positively confirmed, it is believed Winifred was actually Florence Winifred Kennedy born on the IOW in 1892. This could explain why Philip later ended up on the IOW, though how they came to meet remains a mystery. The 1933 electoral roll shows Philip & Winifred living at 26 Worsley Road, Newport, but in the 1947 electoral roll, they were living at 53 Atherley Road, Shanklin (a few doors away from where Philip had his studio in 1939). Despite searching the records, the couple apparently didn't have any children. Philip died in 1965 age 65 and was cremated at Whippingham Crematorium, IOW. His wife Winifred died later in 1982 age 89 and was also cremated at Whippingham. Interestingly, an Edith Adshead age 74 was also cremated at Whippingham in 1965, and this is believed to be Philip's elder unmarried sister. |
